Underground Ozarks

I found this funny website while looking for info for my poor brother who was driving around with three cranky kids and the bad directions I so confidently gave him earlier (It seems like he would know by now that I suck at giving directions...but that's a confession for another time). Not sure that they are up for any of these adventures right now, but maybe when they are older!

Thank you sooooo much for the info on this site. I went to Dogpatch USA several times as a child. It was awesome and creepy to look at those pics!!!

this is exactly the kind of creepy stuff I get a kick out of...used to find stuff like this when we were kids!

I do have to wonder now, though about those tunnels that the priests and nuns from Lourdesmont supposedly met in...steam tunnels???

I wanna sneak into Lourdesmont....

I went to Dogpatch! I wondered what happened to that place. I think I have a pic of me w/Schmoo and DaisyMae.

I remember you had to take a trolley up the "mountain" into the park and didn't the cartoon-like trashcans "suck" the trash down into some unseen cavern below?

Do you remember when Mr. McClain got up in chapel and told us the tunnels didn't exist? I'd still like to snoop around.

Both state hospitals were equally creepy. The abandoned one was on a dead end road and there was a caretaker house right before it. When we drove by, the only lights on in the house were in the basement. Then some of the group decided to go into the building and on the way saw lights go on inside. They didn't stick around for long.

I've had a few friends work at Lourdesmont...its creepy for other reasons.

Having been in most of the "catacombs" of the campus thanks to working maintenance, I can say with some level of certainty that there aren't any tunnels between Jackson and Lourdesmont. There is a tunnel between Jackson and Buckingham that I actually crawled through once when we ran the fiber optic cable. I was the only one who could both a) fit through the tunnel, and it was a tight fit then crawling snake style on my belly through lots of stuff we won't talk or think about and b) wasn't too claustrophobic to make it from one end to the other. They actually rigged me up with a headset and walkie talkie so they could talk to me while I made the "crawl" and it was a good thing they did. It took almost 30 minutes to make it from one end to the other and I did get a bit squirly about half way through. There's nothing else in there besides cables, pipes, and filthy stuff that we don't need to mention.

Jeff Hash ran the other way like a scardy schoolgirl when they tried to get him to do it. He was super claustrophobic.

EEK! I don't think I knew that...

Amy-it's a small world! You're from KC, right? And we met through Tammi because of Shari...6 degrees of Kevin Bacon...

I have to assume too, that if Dr Carter knew of any tunnels to the Catholic girl's school, he would have dynamited them himself...

The state hospital thing did send me on a tangent search for abandoned state hospitals..which is apparently a whole movement in itself...there are lots of sites devoted to them...with lots of photos...and I've seen a few of them!

My freshmen scary thing was walking with Sue White through the graveyard the "shortcut" to Brian Maxwell's house. We absolutely creeped ourselves out. No state hospital needed...

Who needs resorts...we can tour closed and broken down stuff...Next stop...DINOWORLD!

holy tangents! I loved the cemetaries around BBC, by the way. I got enganged in one of them, matter of fact.
Jeff Hash DOES look like Mrs. Doubtfire....or one of the Koala Bear Brothers on the Disney channel.
