What I've Been Working On

I don't remember what office space I first saw this sign, but I thought it was hilarious and I have used this phrase many times :

"The beatings will continue until morale improves"

That's pretty much been my attitude about my house lately.  I feel like I have been beating her into submission.  I realize my personification of my house is not at all normal, but I don't make claims to normality, I just confess what I'm thinking.  I've been pretty much convinced that my house thinks it's supposed to shop at Dilliards and do lunch with the house next door. She's been whining at me...."But I have GRANITE COUNTER TOPS! I'm not a farmhouse!"   I literally had to call my mother.  She said, "It's your house. Do what you want!"    Oh.  Ok.

Wait, what do I want to do?  Who am I?  Where am I going in life?  Do I like green jello?  In case you haven't noticed, I've been having an identity crisis since Charleigh started school. I think this is normal. I should write about that...Hey, if all your kids go to school and you have to fill up your days doing something other than working your life around another person, you will struggle.  There's your heads-up.

So I've been pouring all my creative powers into making this house feel like OUR home.  More than just getting stuff moved in, but really working for us. You know that feeling?  When you sit down for the first time all day and look around you and think, "I'm at home. This is comfortable and I like looking at this."   For months now, I have sat down and thought....."mmmm...what's wrong with this? It neeeeeeeds something."

So that's what I've been working on.  Here's a sneak peak of what I've been doing.  Click on this link to see the whole set.

vanessa,
i always find your home pics very motivating and love the idea of home as a battleground- farmhouse ideals, urban sensibilities, suburban realities. I see them all in these pictures and they do look lovely.

I love EVERYTHING. You really need to come to my farm house and tell it to stop harassing me to take it back to the good ol' days. I can't afford a cool looking vintage stove or a Hoosier cabinet with all the cool drawers... Colored mason jars about all I can pull off right now!
