I am reading Henri Nouwen's Here and Now: Living in the Spirit. This is my first book by Nouwen, though Robb has read and enjoyed several of his books. Here are some great quotes...
"It's hard to live in the present. The past and future keep harassing us....God is a God of the present. God is always in the moment, be that moement hard or easy, joyful or painful."
"It always strikes me that rich people have much money, while poor people have much time."
"The more I think about the human suffering in our world and my desire to offer a healing resonse, the more I realize how crucial it is not to allow myself to become paralyzed by feelings of impotence and guilt. More imporant than ever is to be very faithful to my vocation to do well the few things I am called to do and hold on to the joy and peace they bring me. " (He works with the mentally handicapped BTW).
I have enjoyed this book deeply in its simplicity and gracious tone. It feels like a hug at a time when I am doing a lot of thinking.
