Weekend Update

So before it slips away from me completely, I should recap our weekend, which was, quite frankly crazy fun. And since it is only Tuesday and I am feeling like something that was left out over night, I need the reminder of how nice it was....

Friday night: We Do the Date. That's what the kids used to call it when Robb and I would go out. But this time, we all headed down to Grubs, which is kind of a dive, but kids eat free...and oh...the burgers....yummy! Then we surprised the kids with our first ever drive in movie. None of us had ever been to one before, but with three dollars worth of candy from Walmart, and warm fuzzy blankets,we paid our car fee and settled in for The Spiderwick Chronicles. Mattie and Vin had read all the books in this series, which made the movie even more fun for them. So for forty dollars, we had a great family night.

Saturday, Robb had to work, which left the kids and I with a taste of what summer will be like. After spending one hour on chores, they were off for free time and I spent the day chopping my massive accumulation of dishes for mosaics. With about 1/3 of my collection cut and sorted, I amassed this garbage can full of the leftover shards!

Sunday was one of Robb's best sermons ever. From the story of the sheet let down before Peter, he passed out deli meat, shrimp cocktail, and pork rinds while explaining with eloquence and humor that if people are important to God, they must be important to us.

Afterwards, we ordered pizza and had a picnic in the park with our small group. If you don't have a small group, you need one. They are some of the best people in my life and I cherish the time, even if it is just sitting in the sun, talking and wondering how M could ever like rap music.

Back at home, the kids went down for a short rest time while Robb and I sat in the backyard watching the birds and Robb had a nice, stinky cigar. And hour of uninterupted sunshine and chatter with my husband was like a gift.

Then we rolled out again to meet Carl and Carrie for a game at the new minor-league baseball stadium for our team, the Naturals. They are not very good, but we had a great time together...especially with Charleigh's buddies Zacky and Ellora. At the end of the game, all the kids were invited to run the bases...which resulted in hilarity.

At home, it got dark, the kids went to bed, exhausted and happy, and I had a glass of wine and realized again just how very blessed I am.

I second the small group...its been so much of what we've been looking for. And we're hearing great messages by a Rob every Sunday too...things are starting to look up again and its like a breath of fresh air. Ahhh = )
