Show Me Your Home Office!
Okay, seriously, I need some help. I used to have a whole room devoted to my ebay office, but here, I must share it with our only living room. I am a complete slob when I work and it is absolutely necessary for me to have things out and around me, thus the gigantic desk. But I've got to come up with a way to make this work because it's getting out of control...especially when I find Charleigh playing teaparty with my 18th century porcelain transferware butter pats.
Please, if you are out there and you have a fairly inspiring place to work from, then send me a photo or link to give me some ideas. I don't have any money to spend, so it'll have to be super clever.

can't help you here, Sis. it looks better than my kitchen so...
WEll...If you can't move it...HIDE it..Get a couple sheets, and drape them over the desk area. Its worked for me with Piles of stuff when I dont want it to be an eyesore, like kitchen corner...
Or THink of the teaparty..where computer and entire desk area were draped in sheets.
out of sight..hopefully out of THAT baby's mind.
..and when is your lease up in that little place????
can you cram 3 kids in one room?
i'm all over this one! let me come up with some ideas for you and i'll get back to you! woo-hoo! fun stuff!
ok! so i thought about it!
here are a few ideas that you can take or leave, but they're what i would tell a client...("that's an order" organizational consulting business i almost started 2 years ago : )
* the first rule of order is to put all "like things" together. are all of the books on the book shelves waiting to be either listed or sold? if not, put all of your personal books together on a different side of the shelves. if some of them are used frequently for listing, then keep those on your desk.
*with the extra space from moving all of your personal books create a space for each of your catagories: china, games, books, cds, tchotchkes etc. with the smaller items like jewelry, you could take shoeboxes and either label them with a large, uniform label or you could take a digital photo of what's in the box and paste that to the front of the box.
*in the space between your desk and the left wall, you could stack your artwork leaning together. for clothing you could either fold those on a shelf or use larger boxes (did you save them from moving?) and keep those in the artwork corner as well.
* with items that still need to be listed, you could keep those on your desk until they make their ebay debut, then put them with their catagory.
*you also have some vertical space on the corner of your desk, that you could be using as well maybe with a drawer-type organizer, but i would try to use the desk as a temporary spot for stuff, that way when you're done listing, you have a semi-clean space and a nice sense of accomplishment...
try it or not, but that's what i'd do....and courtney's kitchen is actually quite a wonder of an organizational concept. i happen to like it a great deal : )
thanks Ash!...and thank you IKEA
ikea! that's what I need!
And Ash, feel free to come and visit anytime
I love IKEA! totally furnished our new apt. with it for pretty cheap, actually...well, that and a few garage sale finds.
Ness, what do you think about me changing jobs? I know this breaks the line of conversation but I'm going through "a thing"
I cracked up reading this page....it read like a magazine......I have this problem....here's the solution....I'd think it was all pretty winky, but Ashley made a believer out of me when she was home....I got the free closet organization consultation and hands on fixit solution.....when she left, I did Dad's closet. Now when we get ready for church, he's not doing that last minute drunken sailor, girly, girly thing.....I don't know what to wear and do I look fat in this deal......we are happy, non-paying customers.....I knew all those years of self sacrifice would pay off somewhere. Thank you. I love all three of my talented, smart, funny, and did I mention, beautiful girls. Mom
I think I would like to see that drunken sailor, girlie girlie thing. Sounds like blackmail information for me.
That piqued my interest too.
we know what she's talking about. But we love him too much to tell the whole truth.
court...oh my...we'll talk. Your weekend must have stunk to get you talking about changing jobs!
Dad's drunken sailor shtick isn't as sexy as it sounds, boys; it's definately a family joke! and the job thing: well, let's say I finally had a wake-up moment (thanks to the second half of a bottle of wine, I guess) but also because I just can't stand it anymore. This job has now passed my hatred of the Days Inn job where no one admitted to speaking English (all Korean women), there wasn't an elevator, they always gave me the fourth floor and then stole all my washclothes and the laundry room was in a different building across the parking lot. That job sucked; THIS JOB SUCKS WORSE!! I'm not lazy, I'm not; but I'm starting to feel the same way I felt in highschool--that "what's the point?" feeling of dread that culminates in some creative excuses to not show up. So now I just need to figure out what my strengths are...crikey
was julie/julia a catalyst in all this, court?
oiy! I'm so transparent. well, to catch you up I didn't walk out of my job yelling curses (WANTED TO, OF COURSE) but I have decided to actively pursue something else in the crap town and if I don't have something by Christmas, I'm just not going back. That way my babies can still have a merry twismas
Robb, why would you want to blackmail your father-in-law.....you might do better with the information you know about how he loves "his" doggy...Mom
my only idea is to work up....shelves up the ceiling. Kevin also did more of a built in table desk that worked better and took up less space.
