A Weekend Photo-Diary

Whew....is it really Monday afternoon? Here's a brief overview of our weekend...

Friday, my brother Ron, aka "Uncle Pookie" stopped in to visit on his way from TX to IL. The weather here was terrible and it stormed all Friday night. I caught this pic Friday afternoon during a break in the heavy winds and rain.

On Saturday, despite unpromising weather, we decided to head over to Eureka Springs, which I knew my brother would love. Always our first stop, we had lunch at "Big Jesus" (okay, its real name is Christ of the Ozarks, if you must know). Ron spoiled the kids rotten and took tons of photos, which should be pretty hilarious considering how much peanut butter they had on their faces.

Since we got like ...no sleep...on Friday night, it was no wonder these two caught a cat nap when we got home.

Saturday gave way to Sunday, which was Mattie's 7th birthday. I don't even want to deal with the fact that I have a seven year old now...she's such a big girl! She declared getting her ears pierced to be "the best birthday present EVER." She certainly does look pretty as a princess.

While I made Mattie's birthday lunch (mashed potatoes, gravy and roast...her FAVORITE) Vin took a few photos. He's super cute at this and does a great job of taking my picture, which is hard to do! And, oh, hey...I found my glasses! Now I have a choice!

Then it was time to open presents and have cake. Aunt Ashley's purse full of goodies was the bomb. Now I just have to keep Charleigh out of it!

So that's where I've been. Don't worry blog fans, I'll always keep you posted.

Wow Vanessa, you look great after 9 years and kids, so thin! I wish I could say the same. Well, give me a few months and I'll be back, but it looks like you come by it naturally. Oh to have thin genes . . . and thin jeans.

Looks like you had an awesome weekend. Thats great. Mattie is so cute. I can't believe she is 7! Tell her happy birthday from us. Call me sometime. Its been forever

Heidi...don't worry...as soon as that last one is walking you'll never eat again. I always embarass myself at social settings where I eat whatever is set in front of me in 3 minutes flat...before they can take it away from me!

Shari...I know! Some day the planets will align and we'll be able to have a good chat!

i have to say that i had sooooo much fun picking out all the princess pink girlie stuff for miss mattie!

i don't have a blog yet so i couldn't post on her blog that i love the peirced ears! soooo pretty! you'll have to tell mattie that i had to wait until your wedding to get mine peirced and that was because you pleaded my case to mom.

as a professional, I can definately say the cake looks great--good job. Maybe some day, I'll tell everyone how you trained me over the phone to decorate cakes!! I'm sorry Mattie's card isn't there yet--ask Mom, I'm having a hard time remembering to get stamps lately. In the meantime, tell her we love her! She really does look sooo much like you, Bean (and Nana, for that matter).
You're looking pretty trim, Girl. Maybe that's how I should lose more weight--I'll add a couple more kids to the mix and see how many more calories I can burn :)
(although now that Dora has seen some comercial where this little girl jumps backwards through the house, she's keeping me on my toes--so far, no broken limbs but I fear it's coming).

poor Ash, remember trying to pierce your ears in the bathroom? You've got the thickest darn earlobes!

cgoyfaxz...now that's an interesting word verification.

I told you Vin takes good pictures!

And Mattie is definitely the spitting image of her family. Some day she'll go to someone's door and they will identify her at first glance. It happened to me!

seriously...I gotta stop eating this cake.

sjqxqeI'd tell you to step away from the cake but I've been eating "snowball cake" for two days myself. we had a little dessert party this weekend for a bunch of ron's law school buddies---I'm really popular lol

cake sounds good, although i've been snacking on my piano-key sugar cookies i made this week since september is national piano month...

yes, i remember the time court was going to pierce my ears....we barely made it through one lobe....apparently it wasn't iced all the way.... good times....but no worries b/c now i go to professionals for all of my peircings... it's a little faster than an ice cube and one of mom's applique needles.

umxph: the sound i made while courtney pushed the needle through my earlobe

Ash, you're one step away from my buying you those musical note earrings if you're really serving piano key cookies....or maybe I could get you one of those corny shirts that say something like "musicians always have the keys"

Anonymous said...

never!!!!!!!
they're all for my kids...i'm just eating the mistakes...

Anonymous said...

Sure, Sure. Ash, I think it might be time for an intervention...if you possess any of these items, you might want to reasses your position
--monogramed keyboard tote or briefcase for taking music on the go.
--keyboard or musically note throw for those chilly nights
--stationary that says "take a note" with a trebel cleff on it
It's okay, this blog is here to help everyone...even music freaks :)

The official title we landed on during college for all the freaks frequenting Buckingham hall was:

MUSO.

Ya' know, kind of like, wierdo, just about music?!?!!!

Muso.

I would agree that they were, in fact, freaks deserving a name of their own over there....was it Dr. Kauffman? I used to have to clean that building and he actually snapped his fingers at me and said "oh, cleaning girl, could you get the trash in my office now?" I nearly spit on him. I should have spit on him, now that I'm older...

They really do live in a world all their own, don't they.

Musos.

i'll have you know that i own none of those things except for one musical mug and musical scarf that remain hidden in a trunk somewhere! they were gifts from a very sweet little girl. i just know one day she'll ask me "miss ashley, do you still have that present i gave you?"
yes sweetie i do!

why is it always a rose across the piano keys??
why do people want miniature busts of mozart and beethoven in their living room???
why do people treat their baby grand pianos like a large table used to display their photos on? open the thing up! listen to it!???? it's amazing!
why do so many friggin' people like songs like fur elise and canon in d????? they're so repetitive and overplayed that i want to scream at the top of my lungs "listen to some debussy for pete's sake!!!"
(i've considered putting a "no-fur elise" sign in my piano room....) no offense to those who had those songs played at their wedding...i'm just a music snob... but a muso?

i can't explain musos..well, actually every outsider wants to find a nitch...marching bands are full of them... no offense to any marching band members out there... i probably would have been out there on the field with my trumpet if i'd had the time...or a marching band at my junior high...

furthermore, i have no problem blaming any absent-mindedness on having an artistic personality....
sooo i am like them a bit, but no so in love with chamber music....

september's composer of the month: john lennon
august's composer of the month: john williams
any suggestions for october's??? john wants billy corgan from smashing pumpkins, but i'm open to suggestions...

court, if you say "sunday, bloody sunday...... so help me!"

oesiv: there was a russian, had a dog and oesiv was his name-oh OESIV OESIV OESIV and oesiv was his name-oh!

Careful, Ash, you're in a circle of U2 fans here so I could very well say sbs...however, it's just too obvious so you might want to check out a little group called "she wants revenge" (that's Ron's vote) or, may I suggest that you look into jets to brazil, and the lead singer's side projects (I have, however, forgotten his name).
I think you have been pegged by A regardless of what you say from here on just due to your rant on fur elise alone. At least you don't say things like "this one time at band camp..." Yes, we all want our niche--that's why you'll find me most days talking back to the food network and yelling at Emeril because he couldn't bake his way out of New Orleans...yeh, it bugs me. But the really annoying thing about musos is not the posters of piano keys with roses on them or the incomprehensible conversations regarding techniques...it's just the fact that they're just like Star Trek fans that speak klingon (sp?) only mothers love them.

Definition of Muso:

See post by Ash two posts upward.

Nuf said.

=)))))))

Or, to put things in "southern vernacular":
If you're tempted to put up a "no-fur elise" sign in your piano room, you might be a muso.
If you have a piano room, you might be a muso.
If you've ever said, "Listen to some Debussy for Pete's sake." you might be a muso.

Here's your sign . . .

Anonymous said...

i will humbly accept my sign....
hi, my name is ashley and i am a muso....
however, my piano room is my office, so you can't knock me about that....
and fur elise is really annoying isn't it?
and mom, i was only refering to baby grands, not uprights...they're meant to fit in living rooms and have senior pictures on them...

Anonymous said...

bahahahaha! A got you good, girlfriend! At least you're using your powers for good and not evil :) No, Mom, nobody here is going to criticize a piano that displays the pictures of some of the most gorgeous children and grandchildren the world's ever seen...and at least you dust once in a while. I wait for Ron to start a major allergy attack before I put that on the to-do list.
gjgdgjlo--I think this might be a second generation jigalo
