Elmwood
Though it is actually a massive oak tree you see me standing under, this is Elmwood Cemetery, a garden-like setting founded by genteel Southern men in 1852. It is the final resting place of some 70,000 people with room for 20,000 more. Soldiers from every major American War since the Revolutionary War lie here as well as victims of a Yellow Fever epidemic, and those who died in the worst Maritime disaster in American History (interesting tidbit...and you thought it was the Titanic.)
As you you will see, garden cemetery's are my secret source of fascination. I guess it was the walks our class used to take with Miss Tait to Greendale Cemetery, which was just up the block from our school. Or maybe I just have a ghoulish side.
